Position Overview

Premium Locums Group is placing a highly qualified Advanced Practice Provider — Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) — for a locum tenens assignment in a high-volume Emergency Department in Southern Texas.

This is a Level II Trauma Center serving approximately 50,000 patients annually, with full multispecialty and subspecialty backup. The facility operates a collaborative physician-APP model: 40 hours of daily physician coverage paired with 20 hours of APP coverage, ensuring continuity and clinical support throughout every shift.

Location: Southern Texas, approximately 45 minutes from Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO) — making this assignment highly accessible for travel-based clinicians.

Role Responsibilities

As the locum APP in this Emergency Department, you will be expected to:

• Provide comprehensive emergency care for a wide range of presenting conditions — acute and critical
• Manage and stabilize trauma patients in collaboration with the attending physician team (Level II Trauma designation)
• Order and interpret diagnostic workups — labs, imaging, EKG
• Perform procedures within APP scope of practice as credentialed by the facility
• Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and specialist consultants
• Participate in handoff communications at shift transitions
• Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and facility protocols

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

• Active, unrestricted NP or PA-C licensure in Texas (or ability to obtain promptly)
• National certification in good standing — ANCC or AANP (NPs); NCCPA (PAs)
• DEA license or eligibility for Texas DEA registration
• Minimum 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, or related acute care specialty
• Comfort with high-acuity patients, trauma presentations, and fast-paced ED environments
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR (or comparable system with rapid learning capability)

Preferred

• Emergency medicine NP or PA certification (ENP-C or PAEA Emergency Medicine certificate)
• ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certification
• Prior Level I or II Trauma Center experience
• Prior locum tenens or travel assignment experience
• ACLS/BLS/PALS current certifications
