Role Responsibilities

As a locum physician in Winchester, Virginia, you will be expected to:

• Provide high-quality clinical care across assigned specialties and patient presentations
• Work 12-hour day or night shifts as coordinated with the facility’s coverage model
• Collaborate effectively with attending physicians, specialists, and nursing staff
• Diagnose and manage a broad range of acute and chronic conditions
• Order and interpret diagnostic workups — labs, imaging, and EKG
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in the facility’s EMR system
• Maintain compliance with all Virginia state, federal, and facility-specific protocols
• Communicate proactively with the Premium Locums placement team throughout the assignment

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

• Active, unrestricted MD or DO licensure in Virginia (or ability to obtain promptly)
• Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or a relevant specialty
• DEA license or eligibility for Virginia DEA registration
• Minimum 1–2 years of post-residency clinical experience
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) — specific system confirmed with facility
• Strong interpersonal and clinical communication skills

Preferred

• Experience in multi-specialty or community hospital settings
• Prior locum tenens or travel assignment experience
• Active Virginia medical license already in place — accelerates credentialing timeline
• Familiarity with Valley Health or similar regional health system environments
